While the spectacular Markhor has seen its conservation status improve, the threat of habitat degradation remains constant, particularly in the lower valleys of its range. The Markhor, with its spectacular corkscrew horns, relies on a mix of grazing land and steep, rocky cliffs for safety and food. Increased livestock grazing and unsustainable timber harvesting put direct pressure on these critical habitats.
Our Eco-Cultural projects work to mitigate this conflict. We support local projects that focus on sustainable wood-fuel alternatives and rotational grazing plans, reducing the ecological footprint of human activities. Furthermore, our homestay and cultural tours provide alternative livelihoods for families, steering them away from practices that harm the Markhor’s environment. When you join one of our treks, you are helping to preserve the Markhor’s mountain home, ensuring the spectacular wild goat continues to climb the high slopes of Tajikistan.
